The Flaming Lips are offering up a new twist on Pink Floyd's classic 1973 album, Dark Side Of The Moon.
The Oklahoma City-based band has digitally released what they're calling an "immersive companion piece" to the 41-year-old album called, Flaming Side Of The Moon. The group is encouraging listeners to listen to the new album while listening to Dark Side Of The Moon at the same time.
Played on its own, Flaming Side Of The Moon is instrumental in style, featuring sound effects and chord changes the Flaming Lips say were inspired by the Pink Floyd album. The group also says Flaming Side was "carefully crafted to sync up perfectly with the 1939 movie classic The Wizard Of Oz.
The Flaming Lips previously released a full covers album of Dark Side Of The Moon in 2009. Available now through various digital outlets, the band says it will also make 100 limited edition vinyl copies of Flaming Side Of The Moon available to family and friends.
