The Dallas Cowboys have released pass rusher DeMarcus Ware.

"A decision like this, involving a man who is a cornerstone player in the history of your franchise, is extremely difficult," said Cowboys owner Jerry Jones.

Releasing Ware saves $7.4 million against the salary cap.

Ware missed the first three games of last season due to injury and had a career-low six sacks last season.

He has played for the Cowboys since he was drafted in 2005.
