Russell Johnson, the actor who played the Professor on "Gilligan's Island," has died.

Johnson was 89 years old and died of kidney failure.

His agent confirmed the death to the Wrap and said he died in his Washington home.

"He died at home, peaceful, in his sleep at 5:21 am today," Johnson's wife Constance told ABC. "[He was] a very brave guy who knew what he wanted, and he wanted to be at home."

Johnson was the last surviving male member of the TV show's cast. Tina Louise (Ginger) and Dawn Wells (Mary Ann) are now the only surviving cast members.

During World War II, Johnson served as a navigator on B-25 bombers, earning a Purple Heart and other medals.
