Paul McCartney Is Not Happy With Texas A&M

Paul McCartney is not very happy with Texas A&M University.

On Tuesday, in accordance with PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) Sir Paul sent a letter to University President K. Young asking the University to end its muscular dystrophy research involving golden retrievers. In the letter the music icon wrote "I appeal to you to stop allowing this cruelty and to release the animals for adoption into loving homes. Please do the right thing by ending the suffering of dogs in TAMU’s muscular dystrophy laboratory and switching to modern research methods instead."

As the parent of an Aggie Veterinarian I'm torn on the issue. Of course I don't want any dogs to suffer, but in the past, Texas A&M has defended its research, saying that the dogs "who are already affected by this disease, are treated with the utmost respect and exceptional care on site by board-certified veterinarians and highly trained staff. The care team is further subject to scientific oversight by agencies such as the National Institutes of Health and the Muscular Dystrophy Association, among other regulatory bodies."
