If you missed The Late Show with Stephen Colbert on Monday night, you missed an entire hour with Sir Paul McCartney. I assumed Paul was there to promote his new children's book Hey Grandude! and they did manage to chat about that in the final segment, but the rest of the program was spent delving into various topics. Prior to Paul coming out, there was this funny comedy sketch riffing on the recent news of a lost interview tape featuring a conversation that seems to indicate that the Beatles were at one point considering recording an album to be released after both Let It Be and Abbey Road...
Stephen then welcomed Paul and asked him about The Beatles first time inside the legendary Ed Sullivan Theater in NYC, as well as what inspired Paul to write such amazing songs, and whether he's heard the K-Pop band BTS singing "Hey Jude"...
Then things got deep when Stephen asked Paul how he deals with immense fame, and also reflected on a personal tragedy that Paul's music helped him through....
Then, McCartney reflected on losing his mother at an early age, and how John Lennon experienced similar tragedy. Staying on the subject of loss, they discussed the way John Lennon's death has influenced Paul's music and even his dreams, many decades later....
Finally, the two got around to promoting Paul's new children's book, and Stephen suggested the next round of possible book titles, which was pretty funny......
