Paul McCartney's second album, 1971's Ram, will mark its 50th anniversary with a limited-edition half-speed mastered vinyl pressing on sale May 14th.
The only album to be credited to both Paul and his first wife Linda, Ram was created mostly at their farm in Scotland, after several studio sessions in New York. It also tapped the talents of other musicians, such as Denny Seiwell, a founding member of Paul's upcoming band Wings.
Completed in early 1971 and released in May, Rolling Stone hailed it as a "masterpiece" and "a grand psychedelic ramble full of divine melodies. "Ram included McCartney's first post-Beatles number-one single "Uncle Albert/Admiral Halsey," and the sessions for the album also produced the standalone single "Another Day."
Separately, James Corden opened up Monday night on the rocky road that paid off in McCartney's historic 2018Carpool Karaoke appearance on his CBS Late Late Show.
In a conversation for L.A.'s Paley Center for Media, the comic host recalled how, after getting the legend to agree to tape the segment in Liverpool, he had to deal with Paul getting "cold feet" and suddenly canceling -- only to change his mind back and forth several more times before the cameras rolled.
In the end, Corden is delighted with the experience. "Because of the journey that went on, just how it felt that day, I never expected it to be as moving as it was, singing 'Penny Lane,' driving down Penny Lane with Paul McCartney."
