55 years ago yesterday -- September 6th, 1968 -- The Beatles welcomed a rare special guest into the studio during the sessions for The White Album when Eric Clapton provided the guitar solo to his buddy George Harrison's "While My Guitar Gently Weeps."
Harrison felt the band wasn't showing much love to his song, so he thought by bringing Clapton in they would show more interest and be on their best behavior.
Clapton was hesitant, saying, “Nobody ever plays on Beatles records,” but he finally agreed.
Clapton's solo on "Weeps" has long been considered one of the best ever.
Harrison and Clapton also performed the song in 1971 at Harrison's two Concert(s) for Bangla Desh, and during their tour of Japan in 1991.
And in 2002, Clapton, Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr re-created their parts when they performed the song at the Concert for George in London's Royal Albert Hall.
