Ann and Nancy Wilson reunited as Heart for the first time since 2019 with four shows in the past week.
They did two in California after Christmas before a homecoming show in Seattle on New Year's Eve. That was followed on New Year's Day by a performance during the first intermission of the National Hockey League's Winter Classic at Seattle's T-Mobile Park between the Las Vegas Golden Knights and the Seattle Kraken.
In addition to all their hits, the set included covers of David Bowie's "Let's Dance" and the and final songs of the night, back-to-back versions of Led Zeppelin's "The Battle of Evermore" and "Stairway to Heaven."
Nancy tells the Seattle Times, "I’m just really excited about working with Ann again... It’s a really beautiful legacy to dive back into and look around and see over the four decades-plus that we’ve managed to do some pretty awesome, artistic musical things."
And she says it's more than just music that's kept them together. "The survival of it all was largely due to a wicked sense of humor and just the passion and the desire to do music. Music is a real healing power, and right now, need I say, the world needs it a lot."
As for the sense of humor, Nancy says she and Ann "thought about staging a fight just to satisfy the, what is now like, the haters on social media -- like everybody has to take sides all the time. Everybody has to be in opposite camps, which is such [crap] to begin with, don’t get me started on that. But in my case, having Ann as my sister and having done music with her since I was born basically, it’s a good thing."
And, there may be new music. "We’ve done a couple things in the can and I’ve also worked along with Sue Ennis, who did a lot of Heart songwriting with me and Ann in the past. I’ve got a bunch of new stuff with Sue that I’ve been working on."
These shows are just the tip of the iceberg, as Heart will tour this summer. Three dates announced so far are part of the Journey-Def Leppard stadium tour.
