Classic rock icons Kansas are busy celebrating their 50th anniversary with a massive tour this year… but a heart attack has taken one member off the road. The band confirmed on social media that drummer Phil Ehart (who also serves as band manager) is stepping back, and there’s “no timetable for his return to the road.”
“Phil Ehart is taking time away from touring as drummer for Kansas while he recovers after recently surviving a major heart attack,” wrote the group. But they went on to reveal Ehart was still very much a part of the band.
“Phil is remaining in a prominent role during his recovery, serving as band manager, as he has done for 40 years,” they continued. Eric Holmquist, who’s stepped in for Ehart before, will join Kansas on the road starting Friday.
