Steve Perry Releases Re-Recording of 1986's "It Could Have Been You"

Last week we reported on former Journey singer Steve Perry re-recording the band’s 1986 song "It Could Have Been You" with a new band, The Effect. The song was released yesterday on all streaming platforms.

The Effect features guitarist Trevor "Trev" Lukather – son of Toto’s Steve Lukather and son-in-law of Journey keyboardist Jonathan Cain – and drummer, Nic Collins, son of Phil Collins.

Perry says, “In 1986 the Journey Raised on Radio record was released, and on it was a song I've always felt was a diamond in the rough. I've known Trev since he was nine-years old… One day we were talking…and he surprisingly mentioned [that song being] one of his favorite tracks… I told him I felt the same. I then said, why don't you record it? He asked if I would sing on it if they did, I said... 'Of course my most precious!'”

While we wait to see if Steve Perry ever tours again, The Effect will open five dates for Billy Idol this month before doing the same with Toto in Europe this summer.
