He's not country, but his influence is felt throughout the genre - and the Country Music Hall Of Fame recognizes that fact. Tom Petty is being honored with his own display at the Hall; "Tom Petty: Where I Come From" features various artifacts from his career, including a Gretsch Roundup guitar, a jacket worn during the 1985 Live Aid concert and the "Southern Accents Tour" and stage wear from Mudcrutch reunion tours. Also on display are the handwritten lyrics for "Southern Accents," which was recently covered by Dolly Parton. Petty's career intersected with many of the greats of country music, including Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, George Strait and more. Along with the Hall display, some of the biggest stars of country music pay musical tribute to the legend with the tribute album "Petty Country: A Country Music Celebration Of Tom Petty," which comes out Friday. The Hall display runs through summer 2025.
