Milestone Weekend for Lynyrd Skynyrd and AC/DC

This weekend marks the 50th anniversary of the single release of Lynyrd Skynyrd's "Sweet Home Alabama."

It was released on July 27th, 1974 off their Second Helping album, and the band's late guitarist Gary Rossington says their late singer Ronnie Van Zant's lyrics to the song were certainly inspired by Neil Young, but also celebrated some of the things he liked about the state at the time.

Tomorrow also marks the 45th anniversary of AC/DC releasing their sixth album, Highway to Hell.

The first of three consecutive albums produced by Mutt Lange, and their last with singer Bon Scott, it was their first to break the top 100 of the Billboard 200 -- peaking at 17.

Recently certified eight times platinum, it's their second best-selling album behind its follow-up, and first with singer Brian Johnson, 1980's Back in Black, which was released 44 years ago today, July 25th, 1980.

Two drummers are marking milestones this weekend, as well.

Queen's Roger Taylor is first up this today as he turns 75. And Bad Company drummer Simon Kirke will blow out his 75 candles on Sunday.

Not only were they born two days apart, but they also backed singer Paul Rodgers -- Kirke in Free and Bad Company, and Taylor in Queen.
