Journey Cancels UK Tour Amidst Band Drama

Journey just can't seem to get out of their own way.

Following keyboardist Jonathan Cain filing a petition last month in Delaware asking the court to appoint a third, independent director to serve on the board of Freedom 2020, Inc., the corporate entity through which Journey primarily conducts the band’s business," they've canceled their UK tour in late October and November.

They released a statement saying, "Due to circumstances beyond the band's control, Journey's UK and Ireland tour is unfortunately canceled. Refunds will be made from your point of purchase."

No word if their four Japanese dates in October are still on.

This latest legal development stems from Cain feeling his bandmate Neal Schon is being reckless with the band's American Express card.

According to the petition, Schon has maxed out the account with a one-million-dollar limit by exceeding a daily hotel fee cap of $1,500 by spending "up to $10,000 per night."

In addition, the suit claims that debt payments have been blocked, and they couldn't pay their crew and production company on their current stadium tour with Def Leppard.

Cain's lawyers argue that these "unforeseen strains on cash flow pose a severe threat of harm to the company and to Journey's storied history of musical greatness." This latest incident is also "impacting the band’s reputation throughout the music industry. The band's actual onstage performance is, at the moment, one of the only aspects of the business that has not suffered."

Schon has not commented on this suit, which is the second time Cain has done so due to overspending. The first was in 2022.

Meanwhile, their stadium tour with Def Lep continues with the next show set for this Wednesday in Queens, New York...

Furthermore, they'll play Globe Life Field Arlington on Monday, August 12 with Def Leppard and The Steve Miller Band.
