It was on this day in 1964 when The Beatles played the Hollywood Bowl for the very first time. The show was sold out, 18,700 tickets were snapped up four months prior when they went on-sale. The Beatles took to the stage at 9.30pm and performed 12 songs. George Martin was at the venue, working with Capitol Records' producer Voyle Gilmore on the recording. Martin was reluctant to tape the concert, and after mixing the tracks Capitol decided the quality of the recording was not suitable for release. Eventually an album was released in 1977 called The Beatles At The Hollywood Bowl which contained songs from this show and The Beatles' subsequent two concerts at the venue in late August 1965. Then in 2016 Live At The Hollywood Bowl was released to coincide with the Ron Howard documentary The Beatles: Eight Days A Week – The Touring Years.
