UPDATE TO BEOW STORY:
The next album in the late Tom Petty's catalog to get the reissue treatment is his fifth one, 1982's Long After Dark.
Having once said, “There was some music recorded for Long After Dark that didn’t get on the record that I thought would’ve made it a better album," the deluxe edition contains 12 bonus tracks, seven of which are previously unreleased.
Set for release on October 18th, it now includes his version of Rosanne Cash's “Never Be You,” plus “Don’t Make Me Walk the Line,” and an up-tempo version of “Ways To Be Wicked,” which was previously covered by Lone Justice.
Many of the additional tracks are taken from the French TV sessions, including acoustic cuts such as “Turning Point” and The Everly Brothers influenced “Keeping Me Alive.”
And, with this news comes a video of Petty and The Heartbreakers doing "Straight Into Darkness" from the French TV sessions.
“It’s a good little rock & roll record” but also “a tough record because I never knew if we were making the right decisions about songs,” Petty once said.
This new release has been remastered from the original analog master tapes and will be available in numerous configurations, including a limited-edition TomPetty.com two-LP set pressed on 180-gram red with black splatter color vinyl, housed in a numbered foil tip-on jacket with an exclusive lithograph; a three-disc set featuring two CDs, and a Blu-ray audio disc with additional hi-res stereo and Dolby Atmos mixes of the album and bonus tracks; and a variety of additional vinyl options including black and turquoise.

The Tom Petty estate is teasing a huge announcement this week.
There's a countdown clock on Petty's website that is counting down to 8:00 am on Friday along with a place to sign up for an email list.
Petty's estate tweeted on Monday, "We’ve been working on something really special for a long time for the core Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers fans. We’ve dropped a few clues along the way, but we think you’ll be delighted at what’s to come this fall. The countdown has officially started…"
AND SPEAKING OF THE HEARTBREAKERS.....
Mike Campbell of Tom Petty's Heartbreakers has posted a short video in which he covers The Band's "Up on Cripple Creek." Campbell is one of the musicians on the Life Is a Carnival: Last Waltz Tour this fall, which pays tribute to The Band's 1976 Thanksgiving concert, the last by the original line-up.
