MUSIC NEWS: David Bowie, Dave Mason and Bad Company

David Bowie has his first number-one song on the country chart as Chris Young’s new single, “Young Love & Saturday Nights,” is based on Bowie’s 1974 hit “Rebel Rebel.” Young says, “Every number one is special, but this one — my 14th — really hits differently. To be part of Bowie finding success in country music eight years after his passing is truly an honor and it’s been wild to watch audiences at my live shows reacting to this song that has its roots in a rock staple from 50 years ago. Just wow.”

Dave Mason’s memoir, Only You Know & I Know, will be published today, and he’ll mark the occasion with an appearance on Talk Shop Live at 6:00pm. "Penning a memoir was an interesting project, to say the least,” says Mason. “I'm not one to look back so much, I'm more of a forward-looking person. Yet now that it's written and documented I must say I'm left with, mostly, immense gratitude, though there's been many challenges that at the time felt insurmountable. Clearly, music has been, and continues to be my North Star… This memoir is a testament to the power of rock 'n' roll and the enduring impact it has had on my career and personal life.”

One of the latest additions to The Midnight Special YouTube page is a performance by Bad Company from March 1979 at London's Wembley Arena.

What's unique about this performance is singer Paul Rodgers doing an electric guitar solo in "Can't Get Enough."

We asked him about this and he says, "[Bad Company guitarist] Mick [Ralphs] taught me the original harmony solo which we played together, then he cut me loose on guitar. Mick is such a great guitarist and so underrated."

Mick Ralphs, who, sadly can no longer perform due to a stroke in 2016, says, "Keep playing that guitar Paul!"

This footage was previously released by the band as an official video in 2015, and audio from that Wembley performance was part of their Live 1977 & 1979 album in 2016.

The Midnight Special episode that contained this footage aired on April 27th, 1979, three days before the start of their Desolation Angels tour date at The Summit in Houston.

Joining Bad Co. on that episode of The Midnight Special were Gregg Allman, who also hosted, Elvin BishopBooker T & The MGsJerry Lee Lewis and Jennifer Warnes.
