The Who will be back in business next year.
Pete Townshend tells The Standard, "I met with Roger [Daltrey] for lunch a couple of weeks ago. We’re in good form. We love each other. We’re both getting a bit creaky, but we will definitely do something next year.”'
As for a new album, he says, "Roger’s not keen. But I would love to do another album and I may try to bully him on that.”
Asked if they'll tour, he says, “The last big tours that we’ve done have been with a full orchestra, which was glorious, but we’re now eager to make a noise and make a mess and make mistakes.”
The Who's last album was 2019's WHO, and their last tour was in 2023, but they did do two shows in March at London's Royal Albert Hall in support of Teenage Cancer Trust.
Daltrey was in Cleveland on Saturday to induct Peter Frampton into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, and Townshend will be on stage November 6th in London at the Theatre Royal for a performance of The Seeker, a new concept album he did with his wife, Rachel Fuller.
The Seeker was inspired by Hermann Hesse’s novel Siddhartha and will be released on November 7th. It features songs co-written by Townshend and Fuller with vocals by Townshend, Elton John, Emeli Sande and others. Narration on the album was done by the late Christopher Plummer.
