REO Speedwagon resumed touring last week, a month-and-a-half since their last show and singer Kevin Cronin undergoing an unspecified surgery.
He says, "Fortunately, as soon as I was able, I got back with my awesome vocal coach, Jeffrey Allen. The vocal recovery started out slow, and very challenging... I worked with [him] nearly every day. My wife Lisa listened in on my vocal sessions and added her advice and love. And guess what … all that support, along with my steadfast effort paid off..."
REO's next show is November 6th in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
Cronin also talked about what he will do after REO stops touring at the end of the year due to a legal dispute over the name with bassist Bruce Hall who Cronin no longer wants in the band following back surgery.
"During the late '70s and through the 1980s, Alan Gratzer, Neal Doughty, Bruce Hall, the late great Gary Richrath, and I all formed what our loyal REO Speedwagon fans have come to call the Classic REO Line-up. These current bumps in the road cannot alter our legacy, take away any of what we accomplished together, or change what that music means to our fans. As I go full speed ahead into the REO shows for the next couple of months, and exciting adventures in the new year, I know I have much more music to make, many more songs to sing… and who knows what else the future may bring. Meanwhile, I will continue to do my part in making sure Gary's songs live on forever. And as the rest of us head off down our own separate paths, I wish everyone only the best in their future adventures and endeavors."
Cronin will continue to perform, with one show on the calendar, January 25th at the WinStar Casino in Thackerville, Oklahoma. It's billed as "The Songs of REO Speedwagon."
