Dave Mason Says his Heart Surgery was a Success

UPDATE TO BELOW STORY......

Dave Mason underwent heart valve replacement surgery Monday and his spokeswoman tells us, “It was a success! He's resting comfortably and recuperating. He'll be better than ever soon and back out on the road in 2025!”

Mason has since taken to social media to say, "Let’s hear it for the miracles of modern medicine! My heart valve replacement was a success and I’m home with strong vitals after an overnight stay."

He added, "I’m so lucky to have caught this, as I was unknowingly on the brink of heart failure. With my new heart I’d also like to thank your well wishes and prayers. [My wife] Winifred read every one to me! I know they helped and it sure lifted my spirits through it all. Recovery will steadily increase over the next 90 days, and the next 30 will be big. I’m already feeling better and my heart is full of gratitude for you all."

Mason, 78, had the surgery at the Sierra Medical Center in Reno, Nevada, where he lives.

Mick Jagger had the same surgery in 2019.

Dave Mason has commented further on his announcement in September that he needed to pull the plug on the remainder of his Traffic Jam 2024 tour, including a stop at Longhorn Ballroom in Dallas, due to a serious heart condition that required immediate medical attention. He says he’ll undergo heart valve replacement surgery on November 11th. “I am happily a candidate for a TAVR, which is a minimally invasive procedure. Mick Jagger has had the same surgery, and we’ve all been lucky to have him continue to entertain us. They say I should feel significantly better in 30 days, and fully rocking in 90, given a smooth operation.” Mason is 78.
