Roger Daltrey is now Sir Roger Daltrey to his fellow countrymen as he's been made a Knight Bachelor for services to charity and music by King Charles on his Birthday Honours list.
Commenting on this recognition, he says, "It is a wonderful honor for me and especially for Teenage Cancer Trust."
This is the second time Daltrey has been honored by the monarchy. In February 2005, he was awarded a CBE (Commander of the British Empire) by Queen Elizabeth for his services to music and charitable causes. And, he says the honor is meaningful.
Also recognized on the King's Birthday Honours list are Steve Winwood and 10cc's Graham Gouldman with MBEs -- Member of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire, and Brian May's wife, British actress Anita Dobson with an OBE -- Officer of the Order of the British Empire -- for her philanthropic work.
Winwood says, “I am immensely grateful that I am considered for recognition of my services to music. I am a proud upholder of British culture and values, and am extremely honored to be rewarded in this way, and wish to thank all those who made the recommendation, and those who’ve supported my music over the years."
And, speaking of his wife's honor, Sir Brian May says, "Anita, Lady May OBE!!! Some recognition, so well-deserved, for my amazing missus - who never even pauses in her missions to bring smiles into people's lives. Very proud!"
