The Dallas Cowboys sent shockwaves through #CowboysNation on Saturday when they cut the second-most accurate kicker in NFL history while trimming their roster down to 53 players.
Why cut Dan Bailey? He holds the Cowboys' record for field goals with 186. Maybe they know something about his groin injury that the rest of us don't? There has been a slight decline in Bailey's accuracy recently, but to send him packing and replace him with Brett Maher? Maher has never made a kick in the NFL. Some are suggesting this is completely a numbers issue, ie: money. Bailey was set to make $3.4 million this season. Maher's will get only $480,000.
One of my favorite Dan Bailey moments came during the 2014 season when TV cameras caught me on the sideline behind him, nervously awaiting him to kick the game-winning field goal, which he did, of course.
