Remembering Steve Gaines, Ed King, On Their Birthday

Legendary guitarists Steve Gaines and Ed King were both born on this day in 1949. King was a guitarist for the psychedelic rock band Strawberry Alarm Clock before joining Lynyrd Skynyrd from 1972 to 1975 and again from 1987 to 1996. Sadly, we lost Ed a few weeks ago, on August 22nd after a battle with cancer, he was 68. Gaines replaced King in Lynyrd Skynyrd in 1976, until his death in the tragic plane crash on October 20, 1977.

In their honor, YOU get to pick the Lynyrd Skynyrd song we play today at 4:15 pm with Classic Rock on Demand. VOTE HERE (voting gets underway around 3:50 pm)

In the meantime, here are a few of my favorite Ed King Skynyrd songs and Steve Gaines performances. King co-wrote "Sweet Home Alabama", (that's his voice you hear counting in the "one, two, three"), "Poison Whiskey", "Saturday Night Special", "Whiskey Rock-a-Roller" and "Workin' For MCA"
