Def Leppard is releasing a greatest hits collection, “The Story So Far – The Best Of,” on November 30th (that’s this Friday). Now they’ve put out the first video in their “Stories So Far” series where they break down the making of some of their top hits.
In the first episode, frontman Joe Elliott talks about their classic track “Pour Some Sugar On Me” from their album “Hysteria.” Elliott says he took a break from recording the vocals for another song from the same album, “Armageddon It,” to play around with a song idea on acoustic guitar, which caught producer Mutt Lange’s attention.
According to the frontman, Lange told him it was “the best hook I’ve heard for years.” And that’s how the landmark hit came to be – the two banged out the recording over a weekend and presented it to the rest of the band. Elliott points out that it was not only the last song they recorded for the album, but the quickest one, too.
“The Story So Fary – The Best Of” can be pre-ordered HERE. Check out a clip of the episode to the right.
- ONE MORE THING! The band is giving fans a preview of the upcoming greatest hits compilation with a new music video for a remixed version of their cover of Depeche Mode's “Personal Jesus.” In a statement, guitarist Vivian Campbell talks about the band’s decision to cover the song. “[It’s] the sort of classic song that can be interpreted in many ways and as Def Leppard has always been the kind of band that can blend genres, it was an easy choice for us,” she says. “It was that or ABBA!” Fans can check out the video exclusively on Billboard.
