Joe Elliott Reveals Story Behind 'Pour Some Sugar On Me'

Def Leppard is set to release a new greatest hits collection this Friday called “The Story So Far – The Best Of” and to promote the release they've put out episode 1 in their “Stories So Far” series where they break down the making of some of their top hits. In the first episode, Joe Elliott talks about the classic track “Pour Some Sugar On Me” from the album “Hysteria.” Elliott says he took a break from recording the vocals for another song from the same album, “Armageddon It,” to play around with a song idea on acoustic guitar, which caught producer Mutt Lange’s attention. Lange told him it was “the best hook I’ve heard for years.” And that’s how the landmark hit came to be – the two banged out the recording over a weekend and presented it to the rest of the band. Elliott points out that it was not only the last song they recorded for the album but the quickest one, too.
