Born on this day in 1951, Gary Robert Rossington, the American musician, best known as the guitarist and co-founding member of Lynyrd Skynyrd turns 67. Rossington is also the last original member of the band still with Lynyrd Skynyrd. Rossington was one of six band members who survived the plane crash on October 20, 1977 that took the lives of Ronnie Van Zant, Steve Gaines, Cassie Gaines, and three others. Despite breaking both arms, legs, wrists, and ankles, as well as his pelvis, Rossington would eventually recover from his injuries and play on stage again (albeit with steel rods in his right arm and one of his legs).
In Gary's honor, YOU get to pick the Lynyrd Skynyrd song that airs today at 4:15pm. Look for the voting to begin around 3:45pm with Classic Rock on Demand.
