Though the setlist may have been exactly the same, there was something different, something emotional about Elton John's 2nd night at AAC and final show EVER in Dallas. During the 24 song set, the "Rocket Man" addressed the adoring crowd, fighting back tears as he thanked the fans for decades of loyalty. He also mentioned that not only was this his final Dallas show, but it was also the final show of the first leg of his Farewell Yellow Brick Road Tour. Elton wished his bandmates a "Happy Christmas" and said by this time tomorrow (Sunday) he would be back home in England with his husband and their two sons.
For me, it was also a very emotional evening. It had been 23 years since I'd seen Elton John in concert. The last time in 1995 at Texas Stadium on the Face To Face Tour with Billy Joel. Now, at age 71, Elton may not move around the stage like he used to but he still plays the piano like a maestro. Many of the songs extended into jam sessions with his star-studded backing band. Songs like "Levon" and my all-time favorite "Funeral For A Friend/Love Lies Bleeding" lasted over 10 minutes each. You can see the latter in its entirety below.
