According to a report in the Dallas Morning News, both Dirk Nowitzki and Mark Cuban are planning the former NBA superstar's jersey retirement ceremony and exactly what type of statue should be erected outside American Airlines Center for the Tall Baller from the G. You may remember, during Dirk's retirement last April, Cuban promised to build “the biggest, most badass statue ever ... and we’ll put it right in front of the arena!” Well, apparently Nowitzki has seen some statues he didn't like and Cuban wanted to make sure he saw them to know what to avoid. The article mentions that Cuban has actually looked at some and will consult with a variety of artists. As far as a timeframe, don't expect it anytime soon. Cuban told the News that a statue could take at least one year to plan, commission and create.
