On This Day In 1976, George Harrison Joined Paul Simon On SNL

Portions courtesy UltimateClassicRock.com

The story began seven months prior when Saturday Night Live producer Lorne Michaels offered the Beatles $3,000 to reunite on his show. That didn't work. But on November 20, 1976, George Harrison attempted to take him up on it. Harrison was the musical guest and even helped Michaels with the cold-opening skit about getting paid. The host that week was Paul Simon, and the two famous musicians gave us two of SNL's all-time classic performances. "Here Comes the Sun" and "Homeward Bound," with Paul and George singing verses of the other’s compositions.

It was magical... watch!
