This Sunday, September 5th, would have been Freddie Mercury's 75th birthday.
Born Farrokh Bulsara on September 5th, 1946 in Zanzibar, he grew up there and in India before relocating with his family to England in his teens.
While attending Ealing Art College, he became friends with Tim Staffell who was in the band Smile with Brian May and Roger Taylor. With Mercury at the helm in 1970, the band became Queenand went on to become rock royalty, with chart-topping songs, albums and sold-out tours around the world.
They were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2001.
The oldest member of Queen, Freddie Mercury died on November 24th, 1991 from AIDS. He was 45.
