Born on this day in 1940, Jorma Ludwik Kaukonen, Jr. is an American blues, folk, and rock guitarist, best known as a performer with Jefferson Airplane and Hot Tuna, turns 81. Kaukonen is credited with suggesting the name Jefferson Airplane, which he says was inspired by an eccentric friend who had given his dog the name "Blind Lemon Jefferson Airplane."
