Released on this day in 1977, of one of my favorite movies of all time; Slap Shot. Some would argue it's the best hockey movie ever made, and it WAS.... for 27 years.... until Miracle came out in 2004. It's definitely the best hockey COMEDY ever made. What made Slap Shot so endearing was its R rating. The cursing, the violence, the nudity... somehow just made it all seem even more believable. Of course, getting a Hollywood leading man like Paul Newman certainly helped the movie's legitimacy. Just about every hockey player and/or hockey fan I know can recite all the funny lines in the movie. Especially those of the Hanson Brothers, the child-like goons who "put on the foil" before every game and in their spare time race electric cars.
Right from the start Slap Shot sets the tone with this hilarious scene with French Canadian goalie about the "Finer Points Of Hockey"
