Rod Stewart continues to downplay the long-held belief that he's tight with his money.
He recently left close to a $13,000 tip to the staff at the Gleneagles Hotel in Scotland, along with some advice on how he thinks they should spend it. Staying there with his wife and their two sons to ring in the New Year, he suggested they use it to bet that Scotland will win the European Football (soccer) Championship this summer.
He says, “I’ve been lucky enough to stay in some of the top hotels in the world and the service at Gleneagles is second to none. The staff do a terrific job at a very hectic time of the year and deserve every penny. It’s Scottish hospitality at its very best. I advised the boys and girls at Gleneagles to invest the money wisely. Stick the lot on Scotland to win the Euros.”
Stewart added that he rang in the New Year there in "dedication to my wonderful Scottish father.”
Last year, Stewart paid for a day's worth of MRI health scans at his local National Health Service hospital in Harlow, England.
He also sent $3200 to a single Scottish mom of four after reading a note from her 10-year-old daughter in the Daily Record in which she said, “I have a dream that one day we will live in a world where the cost of living crisis stops and everything is free and nobody struggles with not being able to eat.”
And other recent charitable acts include:
- Paying for a British fan who'd lost the ability to walk to undergo stem cell treatment in America.
- Renting a house in Berkshire, England for a family of seven who fled the Ukraine after Russia’s invasion in February 2022.
- Along with his nephew, filling trucks with supplies to be taken to the Ukrainian border -- and the trucks returned to Berlin with 16 refugees.
- Employing two Ukrainian refugees on his estate in England's Essex countryside.
