On This Day In 1967 John Lennon Heard The News, Oh Boy

It was January 17th, 1967 when John Lennon would read the Daily Mail while sitting at his piano. He noticed two stories, the main story about the Guinness heir who killed himself in a car. Thus the lyric "I read the news today, oh boy" and "he blew his mind out in a car, he didn't notice that the lights had changed" The other story Lennon found was a column about a survey of potholes in Blackburn, Lancashire. The news claimed there were so many holes it amounted to one twenty-sixth of a hole per person. John played with the idea and came out with "now they know how many holes it takes to fill the Albert Hall."
