On This Day In 1982 Prog Rock Supergroup ASIA Dropped Their Debut LP

Released on this day in 1982, Asia is the self-titled debut album by the prog-rock supergroup Asia. The band was made up of four members of different progressive rock bands of the 1970s: lead vocalist and bassist John Wetton of King Crimson, guitarist Steve Howe of Yes, keyboardist Geoff Downes of Yes and the Buggles, and drummer Carl Palmer of Emerson Lake & Palmer. In a world where bands like A Flock Of Seagulls ruled the radio airwaves, Asia managed to top the Billboard chart with their debut LP, selling more than four million copies in the U.S. alone. It was their best selling album and went to number one in several countries.
