Rolling Stones Are Ready to Hit the Road Again

The Rolling Stones will return to the road for the first time since 2022 when their Tour '24 gets underway Sunday at NRG Stadium in Houston.

They've been rehearsing in Los Angeles, and, in addition to tracks off the new album, Hackney Diamonds, they've also been running through:

• "Jumpin' Jack Flash"
• "Gimme Shelter"
• "Monkey Man"
• "Shattered"
• "Little T&A"
• "Paint it Black"
• "Beast of Burden"
• "Far Away Eyes"
• "Dead Flowers"
• "Sad, Sad, Sad"
• "Heartbreaker"
• "Like a Rolling Stone"
• "All Down the Line"
• "Bitch"
• "She's a Rainbow"
• "Emotional Rescue"
• "Fool to Cry"
• "Tumbling Dice"
• "Sympathy for the Devil"
• "Get Off of My Cloud"
• "Start Me Up"
• "Wild Horses"
• "Can't You Hear Me Knocking"

This will be their second tour following the death of drummer Charlie Watts in 2021, and the first for Mick Jagger and Keith Richards as octogenarians. They're both 80 and Ronnie Wood is the kid at 76.

Prior to the start of their 2022 tour, a then 78-year old Jagger told the The Sunday Times, "Rock ’n’ roll, or any kind of pop music honestly, isn’t supposed to be done when you’re in your 70s. It wasn’t designed for that. Doing anything high-energy at this age is really pushing it. But that makes it even more challenging. So it’s like, ‘OK, we’ve got to do this right,’ but it’s got to be as full-on as possible. Of course, you could do another type of music -- we’ve got lots of ballads. I could sit on a chair.”

But we know Jagger can't sit still, which is why he starts training for a tour six weeks before band rehearsals. He says, "I do dancing, gym, every day of the week. I don’t enjoy it very much, but it has to be done.”

And following heart surgery in 2019, the now has a cardiologist on the road.

One fellow singer who agrees with Jagger that "rock ’n’ roll isn’t supposed to be done when you’re in your 70s" is Grace Slick, who in 1999 told us that the then 55-year old Jagger needed to stop.
