Van Halen Releases Extended Edition of 'For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge'

Van Halen are releasing an expanded edition of their ninth album, 1991's For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge.

Their third of four albums with Sammy Hagar, it's been remastered and includes previously unreleased alternate versions of “Right Now” and “The Dream Is Over,” plus a previously unreleased concert footage from December 4th, 1991 in Dallas.

It will be released on July 12th with the Expanded Edition containing two LPs, two CDs, and a Blu-ray, which contains the videos for “Poundcake,” “Runaround,” “Top of the World,” and “Right Now.”

And Rhino.com is selling an exclusive bundle featuring the album and a set of four seven-inch singles, including “Poundcake” / “Pleasure Dome”; “Top of the World” / “In ‘N’ Out”; “Right Now” (Organ Version) / “Man on a Mission”; and “Right Now” (Guitar Version) / “The Dream Is Over” (Instrumental Version).

Looking back on the album, Sammy Hagar says, "I really believe For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge may be our greatest record song for song and certainly the way it sounded. Mike and I still play more songs from this album than any other album in The Circle set. That pretty much says a lot. And the remastering makes it sound even better!"

And Michael Anthony adds, "We were able to take our time to write and record this record, and one of the things I especially liked about the recording process was having Andy Johns engineer and co-produce with us. Being a bass player himself, he got me a big fat sound that I had never had on previous records! Definitely one of my favorite Van Halen albums!"

And with this announcement comes the digital and streaming release of "Poundcake" from the West End Marketplace in Dallas on December 4th, 1991.

Sammy Hagar, Michael Anthony, Joe Satriani and Jason Bonham will perform live in Dallas on August 22nd.
