Steely Dan and R.E.M. Inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame

Steely Dan (Donald Fagen and the late Walter Becker) and R.E.M. (Bill Berry, Peter Buck, Mike Mills and Michael Stipe) are among those being inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame tonight at the Marriott Marquis Hotel in New York City.

Both groups are also members of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, with Steely Dan being enshrined in 2001 and R.E.M. in 2007.

Steely Dan, responsible for such hits as "Do It Again," "Reelin' in the Years," "My Old School," "Rikki Don't Lose That Number," "FM," and "Hey Nineteen," released seven albums in eight years, and then two more following a 12-year break.

Donald Fagen continues to tour under the Steely moniker following the death of Becker in 2017.

Songwriters who were nominated but didn't get in this year included Debbie HarryChris Stein and Clem Burke of BlondieAnn and Nancy Wilson of HeartBryan AdamsRandy Bachman and Burton Cummings of The Guess WhoTracy ChapmanGeorge ClintonTom JohnstonPatrick Simmons and Michael McDonald of The Doobie BrothersDavid Gates of BreadKenny Loggins; and Chuck D and Flavor Flav of Public Enemy.

Unlike the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and Museum in Cleveland, there is no physical Songwriters Hall of Fame for you to visit.

R.E.M.'s induction into the Songwriter's Hall of Fame tonight has led all four members to sit down together for an interview.

The interview by Anthony Mason will air on CBS Mornings today and will be the first time Michael Stipe, Peter BuckMike Mills and Bill Berry have been interviewed together since they day they announced Berry was leaving on October 30th, 1997.
