SAMMY HAGAR: He's Now a High School Graduate
Sammy Hagar was in his hometown of Fontana, California, an hour east of Los Angeles, on Saturday to open Stage Red, the former Fontana Theater that was built in 1937 as a one-screen movie theater. Sammy preferred calling it "Stage Red" instead of "The Hagar Theatre".
Hagar not only joined Mayor Acquanetta Warren and City of Fontana Council Members in cutting the ribbon, but he was also presented with a diploma from Fontana High School; which he’d been denied during his youth following a prank.
“When you go back to your hometown is where you really want to be known," says Hagar. "Growing up, I was a poor kid, and coming here to this beautiful place and being honored like this by the mayor and everyone else just feels really good.”
Hagar along with guitarist Vic Johnson from The Circle then did an acoustic show, with Hagar's wife Kari joining in on a few songs, including Van Halen's "Finish What Ya Started.”
Other songs performed included covers of "Hey Joe," made famous by Jimi Hendrix, Procol Harum's "A Whiter Shade of Pale," and Depeche Mode's "Personal Jesus" along with "Eagles Fly," "Rock Candy," "Dreams" and "Right Now."
