20 Years Ago Today, David Bowie Said Goodbye to Performing

We lost David Bowie in 2016, but 20 years ago he unknowingly said goodbye to doing his own show.

On June 25th, 2004, during his set at the Hurricane Festival in Scheessel, Germany, he experienced chest pain, but shrugged it off to a pinched nerve in his shoulder.

It turned out it was an acutely blocked coronary artery, which required an emergency angioplasty in Hamburg.

Bowie canceled the remaining 14 dates of his tour and never did his own show again.

In the years that followed he did a few one-off performances, including joining Arcade Fire two times in 2005, and David Gilmour at London's Royal Albert Hall in 2006.

Bowie died of liver cancer on January 10th, 2016. He was 69.
