Pat Benatar Marks 45th Anniversary of "In the Heat of the Night"

Today, August 27th, marks the 45th anniversary of the release of Pat Benatar's debut album, In the Heat of the Night.

The first single, "If You Think You Know How to Love Me," tanked, but the second, "Heartbreaker," which followed in October 1979, set the table for her becoming a member of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame -- inducted in 2022.

The album also included a cover of John Mellencamp's "I Need a Lover," which received a lot of airplay on AOR stations (remember them?). And, it was the first song of hers that she heard on the radio.

In the Heat of the Night peaked at 12 on the Billboard 200 and has sold over a million copies in the U.S.
