Randy Bachman's "Taking Care of Business" Doc Premieres September 12th

The documentary on Randy Bachman's career is complete.

Titled Takin' Care of Business, it will premiere on September 12th at the Toronto International Film Festival.

Directed by Tyler Measom, it tells the story of how Bachman "rose to the top of the charts with The Guess Who and Bachman-Turner Overdrive, married a Mormon, and launched an obsessive quest when his beloved Gretsch guitar disappeared... It’s here that Takin’ Care of Business becomes a story of mystery and obsession. Bachman buys every similar guitar he can find. He thinks he spots his lost love in a Thompson Twins music video. And then, in the midst of health challenges and COVID lockdowns, he gets a lifeline to the Gretsch, halfway across the world."

In case you're not familiar with this story, the 1957 Gretsch was stolen in 1976 from a Toronto hotel.

In 2021, Bachman was contacted by William Long, a fan in White Rock, British Columbia who recognized the guitar being played in a video by Japanese musician Takeshi.

Takeshi agreed to give the guitar back, but Bachman had to replace it with "it's twin."

Bachman, who had at one time amassed more than 350 Gretsch guitars, reached out to his friend Gary Dick at Gary's Classic Guitars in Loveland, Ohio to help find another one, in mint condition, for him to trade. So on July 1st, 2022, Canada Day, Bachman and Takeshi exchanged guitars at the Canadian Embassy in Tokyo.
