Happy Birthday! Chrissie Hynde

Born on this day in 1951, Chrissie Hynde, the legendary singer-songwriter, guitarist, and founding member of the Pretenders, turns 73. One of the very first punk/new wave albums I ever bought was actually the cassette of Extended Play, the 1981 EP featuring “Message of Love" “Cuban Slide,” "Talk of the Town," “Porcelain” and “Precious.” Chrissie’s autobiography Reckless is one of the best audiobooks I’ve listened to. Narrated mostly by Rosanna Arquette, it places Chrissie at some of the most influential and important moments in punk/rock history. She’s truly one of a kind.

In her honor, check out some of my favorite early videos from the Pretenders.
