Jane's Addiction Cancels Rest of Tour Following Onstage Brawl

UPDATE TO BELOW STORY......

Jane's Addiction have canceled the rest of their tour -- and say they're taking a break.

The band posted a statement Monday morning that says, "The band have made the difficult decision to take some time away as a group. As such, they will be cancelling the remainder of the tour. Refunds for the cancelled dates will be issued at your point of purchase."

Then Dave NavarroEric Avery and Stephen Perkins followed up the band statement with an Instagram post placed on all three of their accounts, that squarely placed the blame on frontman Perry Farrell. "Due to a continuing pattern of behavior and the mental health difficulties of our singer Perry Farrell, we have come to the conclusion that we have no choice but to discontinue the current U.S. tour. Our concern for his personal health and safety as well as our own has left us no alternative. We hope that he will find the help he needs."

They added, "We deeply regret that we are not able to come through for all our fans who have already bought tickets. We can see no solution that would either ensure a safe environment on stage or reliably allow us to deliver a great performance on a nightly basis. Our hearts are broken."

About two hours after the initial statements Perry Farrell posted his own on his Instagram story. He said, "This weekend has been incredibly difficult and after having the time and space to reflect, it is only right that I apologize to my bandmates, especially Dave Navarro, fans, family and friends for my actions during Friday's show. Unfortunately, my breaking point resulted in inexcusable behavior, and I take full accountability for how I chose to handle the situation."

The band had 14 dates remaining on the trek, which was set to resume Wednesday in Toronto.

This latest split comes after Farrell punched Navarro on stage in Boston Friday night, and then was grabbed by Avery and two crew members and removed from the stage.

Here's the latest post from the band's official Instagram page.

And, here's Dave Navarro's post from his official Instagram as well.

Jane’s Addiction’s show in Boston Friday night ended abruptly after Perry Farrell punched Dave Navarro.

Fans posted multiple videos of the incident, which happened during “Ocean Size.” The clip shows Farrell making some vocal noises on mic towards the crowd, then turning to Navarro to make the same noise.

Farrell then bumped Navarro, who stopped playing and put a hand in Farrell’s chest to get him to back off. Then Farrell swung at Navarro.

Bassist Eric Avery and two crew members then surrounded Farrell, and forcing him offstage while the house lights go down.

After Farrell was off stage, Navarro, Avery and drummer Stephen Perkins stepped to the front of the stage and hug, and then acknowledge the audience before walking off.

It’s not clear what caused the confrontation, but reviewers of previous shows in Los Angeles, Tampa and New York all mentioned how Farrell had been drinking a lot of wine while on stage and appeared, at times, drunk.

Early Saturday morning Farrell’s wife Etty Lau posted a clip of the fight on her Instagram and offered up what she said was “first person account” of what happened — and blamed Eric Avery for making things worse.

Etty Lau wrote that “Perry's frustration had been mounting, night after night, he felt that the stage volume had been extremely loud and his voice was being drowned out by the band” and that “when the audience in the first row, started complaining up to Perry” that the band was “too loud and that they couldn't hear him, Perry lost it.”

She then said that while Navarro was trying to de-escalate the situation, Avery put Farrell “in a headlock and punched him in the stomach three times.”

She claimed that afterwards that “Perry was a crazed beast for the next half an hour — he finally did not calm down, but did breakdown and cried and cried. Eric, well he either didn't understand what descalation meant or took advantage of the situation and got in a few cheap shots on Perry.”

Jane’s Addiction have apologized for the onstage fight between singer Perry Farrell and guitarist Dave Navarro that ended their Boston show early Friday night, but an Instagram post from Navarro on Sunday seemed to leave things a bit unsettled.

The groups' note on their Instagram stories Saturday said, “We want to extend a heartfelt apology to our fans for the events that unfolded last night. As a result we will be cancelling [Sunday] night's show in Bridgeport [Connecticut].”

Navarro followed it up on his personal Instagram account with a photo that shows him seated holding an acoustic guitar backwards, revealing a good-size Jane's Addiction logo.

The post's caption is just a single word: "Goodnight..." It's cryptic enough to leave him wiggle room, but it could imply without saying so that he's done with band, or simply that he needs a good rest from the last couple of days.

Jane's Addiction's tour, with Love and Rockets opening, is scheduled to resume on Wednesday in Toronto. The question is have they gotten past all the tensions of this past weekend?
