Marc Bolan was an English singer, songwriter, musician, record producer, and poet, best known as the lead singer of T. Rex. Regarded as one of the pioneers of the glam rock movement of the 1970s. Bolan's appearance on the BBC's music show Top of the Pops in March 1971 (above), wearing glitter and satins, is often cited as the beginning of the glam rock movement. Sadly, it was 46 years ago today when Bolan died in a car crash two weeks before his 30th birthday. The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inducted T. Rex posthumously in the class of 2020.
