After years of negotiations, Pink Floyd have finally sold their catalog.
The Financial Times reports that Sony Music purchased it for $400-million. The deal not only includes all the band's albums -- it also gives Sony the rights to the Pink Floyd name and likeness. That means the company will have the rights to merchandise and spin-offs such as movies and TV series.
The proposed sale was first discussed back in 2022, but got put on hold because of disputes between David Gilmour and Roger Waters, and due to the various political controversies Waters has been involved in over the past few years.
The band still retains their publishing rights.
Sony is also reportedly in talks to purchase Queen's catalog for $1.27 billion, making it the largest music rights sale. The previous high went to Michael Jackson's estate earlier this year when Sony purchased half of his publishing and recording masters for $600 million.
Other big catalog sales include Bruce Springsteen's in 2021 to Sony for $500 million and Bob Dylan's to Sony for $200 million, Dylan also sold his publishing to Universal Music Group for a reported $300 million.
