The first ever theatrical showing of Cameron Crowe’s Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers documentary Heartbreakers Beach Party took place yesterday at select theaters across the U.S.
The film, which was lost for many years, aired just once on MTV in 1983. Earlier this year the original 16mm reels were found and remastered. A clip of Petty talking about “The Waiting” was posted on X yesterday. The film’s second and last scheduled day in theaters for now is this Sunday, which would have been Tom's 74th birthday.
In other Petty news, Tom's brother Bruce Petty was on hand for the dedication of a plaque honoring Tom in their hometown Gainesville, Florida last weekend. Tom's family posted photos of the ceremony on X Wednesday.
Check out the original post about it here from Petty's official X account.
