Happy 75th Birthday to Styx Co-Founder JY Young

A big happy 75th birthday to Styx co-founding guitarist James "JY" Young, who was born on November 14th, 1949 in Chicago, where he still lives.

Rounding out the original lineup were Dennis DeYoung on keyboards and vocals, drummer John Panozzo and his twin brother Chuck on bass, and guitarist John Curulewski.

The band recorded and released four albums on Wooden Nickel -- StyxStyx IIThe Serpent Is Rising and Man of Miracles -- before moving to A&M for their fifth album, 1975's Equinox, which was the last one with Curulewski, who was replaced by Tommy Shaw.

Of the original lineup, JY is the only full-time member with Chuck Panozzo making occasional appearances. He has AIDS but is in excellent shape.

John Panozzo died in 1996 from gastrointestinal hemorrhaging and cirrhosis. He was 47.

They parted ways with DeYoung in 1999 and Curulewski died in 1988 from a brain aneurysm. He was 37.

Rounding out today's Styx lineup is Shaw, Lawrence Gowan on keyboards and vocals, Todd Sucherman on drums, Terry Gowan on bass, and Will Evankovich on guitar.

Styx will return to the road in December for three shows in Oklahoma, including a show at Choctaw in Durant, Oklahoma on Friday, December 6th, before hitting Florida in January for four followed by a five-show residency at The Venetian in Las Vegas from January 24th through February 1st. Then it's back to Florida for their second appearance aboard the Rock Legends Cruise out of Fort Lauderdale on February 13th.
