Paul Simon Trying to Reverse the Sounds of Silence

Paul Simon is being proactive in his quest to try and correct the hearing deficiency in his left ear.

The problem arose during the recording of his last album, 2023's Seven Psalms, with Simon saying, “Quite suddenly, I lost most of the hearing in my left ear, and nobody has an explanation for it. So everything became more difficult.”

This week, during an interview on CBS Mornings he said, “It was incredibly frustrating. I was very angry at first that this had happened. I guess what I’m most apprehensive about would be if I can’t hear well enough to really enjoy the act of making music."

During the segment, CBS cameras were on hand as Simon visited with the Stanford Initiative to Cure Hearing Loss in Palo Alto, California to discuss some of their latest research into hearing loss.

While there's been a slight improvement, he says he'll base his performing on doing acoustic numbers because if's "much quieter," adding that he'll no longer do songs like "You Can Call Me Al."
