John Lennon was killed 44 years ago yesterday, December 8th, 1980, a death that was first announced by Howard Cosell on ABC's Monday Night Football.
But six years earlier, on December 9th, 1974, Lennon paid a visit to Cosell in the broadcast booth during halftime of the Washington Redskins - Los Angeles Rams game at the Los Angeles Coliseum.
He said the NFL "makes rock concerts look like tea parties." When asked about a possible Beatles reunion, he replied, "You never know... I mean, it's always in the wind."
He also plugged both his Walls and Bridges and Ringo's Goodbye Vienna albums -- pointedly ignoring George Harrison's Dark Horse, released that day.
