On This Day In 1973, Legendary NY Punk Club 'CBGB' Was Born

December 10, 1973, the legendary New York City music club CBGB was opened by Hilly Kristal. The acronym stood for "Country, Blue Grass, and Blues" which would turn out to be ironic as the venue became a haven for punk and new wave bands like the Ramones, Blondie, Talking Heads, Patti Smith, Television, Richard Hell and many more.

To celebrate the anniversary, check out the 1978 CBGB documentary "Blitzkrieg Bop" above, and scroll down to see a few classic performances.
